Qiantang River Tide in Haining

Since ancient times, Qiantang River Tide has been one of the world wonders. Many people watch the splendid natural phenomenon every month especially in September.

Haining City is located in south Yangtze River Delta, north Zhejiang Province. It is the No.1 economic city in the north area. Haining Tide has the best view of Qiantang River Tide and is named as the world wonder nowadays. Temple of Sea God is a very rare classic palace building in South Yangtze River Region. The stone lion with white jade color, flagpole stone, memorial arch are all in very precise carving. They all look like real things. Besides there are many talents whose hometown are Haining. Many celebrities come from here. People like Wang Guowei, Xu Zhimo, Jin Yong and Jiang Baili are representatives. The weather in Haining is very seasonal. It is a typical water town in South Yangtze River Area. It has been given the name “Home of Rice and Fish” “Home of Silk” “City of Leather”.

The long history of Haining has cultivated abundant culture. The Yan Guan Ancient Town Anguo Temple was built in Tang Dynasty. The building is huge and creative with Buddhist scriptures engraved on it. The Great Wall on the water is also very famous.

The unique Haining Tide has been praised and written in many poems and it has contained abundant culture deposits. The extraordinary surging tide of the Qiantang River is a world-renowned natural wonder caused by the gravitational pull of the stars and planets. The centrifugal force produced by the rotation of the earth and by the peculiar bottleneck shape of Hangzhou Bay makes it easy for the tide to come in, but difficult for it to ebb. Annually, millions of people from both home and abroad flock there to watch the magnificent tide on the eighteenth day of the eighth lunar month (also around the Mid-Autumn Festival). When the surging tide comes, the water can rise up to a height of 30 feet and the noise it generates sounds like thunder, or thousands of horses running. Various activities will also be held to celebrate the annual Tide – Watching Festival, according to local custom. In terms of its history, the custom of watching the bore tide has happened for more than 2000 years. The best place to watch the event is just in Yan Guan of Haining.
