Spring Festival Eve, commonly called 除(chú)夕(xī) in Chinese, is essential in traditional Chinese culture. There’s nearly no stores opening tonight except restaurants. All Chinese people are enjoying their family gathering to wait for their New Year together. Many people maintains the old traditions to celebrate at home while many others choose to celebrate in the restaurants or directly travel outside to spend a special new year.
Fireworks are set off everywhere along the street and around every residence community. It seemed that the “noisy” sounds are kicking off all the “unlucky things” or “unhappy emotions”.
春(chūn)晚(wǎn) refers to the TV show which is held especially in Spring Festival Eve by CCTV (CCTV New Year’s Gala), and it is almost considered as the most significant evening event for Chinese people, especially the Theatrical Skits (Chinese Xiaopin, 小品) received the extremely large audiences every year.
Less than 10 minutes later Chinese people are going to embrace their Rabbit Year. Sincerely wish everybody a delightful 2011.
