China Budget Travel Tips

“Budget Travel Tips” is undoubtedly a hot topic for travelers, not only help to save more money, but also may bring more unexpected surprise and fun.

It is said that there are two kinds of travelers, one kind prefer to blend in with the locals and willing to rough their journey so as to gain more special experience, while some other are more likely to make their vacation as comfortable as staying at home in every possible way. But the two kinds can’t avoid one common thing, how to budget properly.

Well, when we design a specific China tour package for our clients, the principle for us is to achieve a budget balance, in other words, to offer a value-oriented itinerary. Here are some of my tips:

1.     Overnight Train—Save money for both flight ticket and one night accommodation

This tip especially helps for Beijing to Xian currently, as top tourist cities of China; the air ticket fee is usually two times more expensive than the overnight soft sleeper during the peak travel season. Besides, don’t worry about the inconvenience, the departure and arrival time is golden and the 12 hours duration is not that tough, Sara Naumann, the About.com Guide also recommend it.

2.     Private Transfer & Public Transportation—Why Not Mix & Match?

It is considerate to enjoy a private transfer to your booked hotel after several “tiring” hours by air and you have to adjust to new sleep patterns because of the jet leg. Since you have a good enough rest, it is time to fully explore your tourist destination. My colleague bought a book about Traveling in Paris by subway. It is actually the story that if you try to spend at least one day by subway in Beijing or Shanghai, you’ll discover more fun on the way than taking your private van to tour a city.

3.     Consider home stay to have a culture immersion traveling experience

“B&B” (Bed & Breakfast) is popular and widely accepted in London, especially if you are not traveling with group, get close to the locals and enjoy the genuine family cuisine is surely amazing. In both Hangzhou and Shanghai, the residence community is well-developed and we can offer you an opportunity to touch the real life by “home stay program”.
